NO SURPRISES IN CLUB RUGBY
Maoris Win by Single Point from Napier O.B. WINTRY CONDITIONS The first round of the combined Hastings-Napier Rugby football club chaihpionship concluded on Saturday afternoon, and there were no surprise results. M.A.O. and Marist, both two points ahead of Technical Old Eoys, l'ead the field. There is eyery indication of the second round producing some wonderful games, The neferest to a surprise result was that of the M.A.C. v. Napier H.S.O.B. game, which ended 6 — 5 in favour of the Maoris, It was a eplendid game and attracted the biggest crowd of the seafeon at Nelson Park, Hastings. On the adjoining area Celtic had a eomfortable win over Havelock North by 26 points to six. In the main game at Napier, Marist scored a good victory over Hastings, a secopd-spell effort carrying the day by 16 points to six. In the other game Technical Old Boys easily accountecl for Pirates, the final score being 22 — 5 in their favour.' Conditions generally were wintry, with a strong westerly* wind affecting the play.
