WAIROA DEBUTANTES MAKE THEIR BOW

The long-looked-for event, the Debutantes' Ball, was held at Wairoa on Wednesday night. There was a large company pr-esent, including many onlookers, for whom at times the seating accommodation - was scarcely suffieient. The ballroom was tastefully deeorated with flowers and greenery, and presented a pretty picture offset by the ladies J dresses. The M.C. was Mr R3g. Herbert, and the mu'sie was proviilcd by the Ivlick Klack Orchestra. There were seven dobutantes to be presented, all prettily attired, Misses Eileen Moloney, whdte satin; May St. Clair, white georgette; Mary Binns, starelied tulle; Miriam Barclay, white silk net over satin; Pat Hall, white satin; Valerie Storey, white georgette; Doreen. O'Connor, cumulus cloque. On their entrance, they were received by the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs H. L. Harker, and Mr A'. G. Nolan, eounty chairman, ahd Mrs Nolan. The page boy was Master John Meagher, followed by the following escort bearang the debutantes ' cake on a specially prepared and nicely deeorated chariot. They were Misses Valerie Powell, Nola Mayo (the leaders) and Misses Rosy Callahan, Shirley Svensen, Judy Marshall, Malvina Forbes, Judy Baker and Polly Hingston, making a very pretty fcand of flower girls. After having been presented with handsome bouquets by the Misses Valerie Powell and Nola Mayo they were marshalled on the dais by Mr F. G. MeATdle, who duly presented them. The debutantes' cakc was bxouglit forward by the escort and cut by Mrs Harker and Mr A. G. Nolan, after which they cngaged in the debu- . tantes '• waltz, eacli rceciving during the picturesque ceremony a full meed of applause.
