(From Our Own Correspondents) Concrete Poles. An inspection of concrete poles manu* factured by the Central Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board for use on extension work to be carried out immediate* ly at a cost of about £10,000 were tested yesterday tinder the supervision of Mr F. N. Doig, Public Works Department engineer, Palmerston North. Also present were Messrs H. Bicard (seeretary) and F. Devlin (engineer;, of the Dannevirke Board, and Mr B. Diamond, of the Public Works Depaxtment, Ongaonga. Rainfall in Waipukurau. Waipukurau 's rainfall for the month just concluded was 2.22 inches. May was the wettest month this year since Janu&ry when' the month 's Tain was 2.98 inches. The total for the five moDths (January — May) was 7.62 inches eompared with the rainfall for the same period last year of 18.45 inches. The above figures indicate the very dry autumn that has been experienced in Waipukurau this year. Otane Rugby Team. The foilowing team will represent Otane in their match against Omakere, to be played. at Otane on Saturday: — Tolley, S. Drinkrow, Belliss, Smith, Roach, Cullen, R. Drinkrow, Beale, Orr, Higgs, Burgess, Stepkens, Wright, Osborne, Greene. Emergeqcies: Baeks, Ross, Panapa; forwards, Anderson, Hislop. Norsewood Institute. There was only a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Norsewood Women 's Institute, at which' the president, Miss Rosacker, presided. Miss Jull, of Waipawa, gave a most interesting talk on Canberra, the Federal capital of Australia, and was heartily thanked. A competition for pikelets resulted dn Mrs J. Brabazon being first, with Mrs H. Iggulden second. A saies table, in aid of the hall fund, was well patronised, and the proceeds should eonsiderably augment the fund. A dainty afternoon tea and the singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant meeting to a close, In the evening the fortnightly 500 card tournament was held, and the attendance was smaller than usual. However, a jolly time was spent. The winner in the ladies ' secbion was Mrs Max Mulholland with seven wins out of 10 games played, and the gentlemen '& prize went to Mr Max Mulholland with nine wins. A dainty supper was served.
