Plans to Afiord Practical Assistance HOLIDAY FOR MOTHER At tlie invitation of the Mayoress, Mrs. G. A. Maddison, representatives of the various -organisations interested in ehild welfare met in the • Council Chambers yesterday afternoon to discuss how assistance could be given to Mrs. J. C. Anderson, of Kahuranaki, and her triplet bahies. Mrs. G. A. Maddison was in the chair, and there were also present: Miss Elsie Williams and Mrs. A. R. Greenwood, representing the Plunket Society; Mrs. D. T. Riggir, Women's lnstitute ; Mrs. A. F. Glenny and Mrs. A. C. ' A. Hyde, the Townswomen's Guild;' Mrs. J. H. The need for practical assistance for Mrs. Anderson, who is by no means strong yet, was stressed by Mrs. Maddison, who said that it was hoped that the people of this district would show their sympathy with ready assistance, which will be very necessary besides any grant which the Governnfent might make. Mrs. A. R. Greenwood reported what had been done so far with regard to sending the triplets to the Wellington , Karitane Home for the winter months. After discussion it was decided that about £200 would be necessary to meet this expense and give some assistance to Mrs. Anderson when the triplets return home. ■ Miss Elsie Williams moved that Mr. G. A. Maddison be asked to approacli the Government, through the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, to contribute £200 for the upkeep of the children while at the Karitane Home. This was seconded by Mrs. H. LovellSmith and carried. Arrangements have already been made to obtain the King's Bounty of £5, and the Mayor has contfibuted £20 from the Lord Nuffield Fund. The W.D.F.U. propose to meet the expense o( * inonth's holiday for Mrs. Anderson. Discussion then centred round the raising of further funds to give assistance when the triplets return home. Mrs. D. J. Riggir, on behalf of the Women's Institutes, offered to collect from the surrounding districts, and everyone agreed to her suggestion that she should ask one member from each institute to collect money from her district. With regard to raising money in the town, it was decided that the organisations — the Plunket Society, Townswomen'e Guild,. Women's Community Club and W.D.F.U. — should organise a card party to he held in the Assembly , Hall on June 23. A committee formed of the representatives present will meet on Friday, June 11, at the Council Chambers at 2.30 p.m. to discuss plans, and anyone willing to assist will be welcome. Tfiis party will close the appeal for funds and in the meantime any donations, all of which will be gladly received, may be left with the Town Clerk.
