The hours of work formed the basis of a discussion in the Conciliation Coiirt in the dairy factories'' dispute, it boing agreed t'xat a settlomont of th6 ' hours question was essential as a preliminary to the adjustment of other questions, such as wages, Tentative proposals wero put forward, and the conference adjourned.till this afternoon so that the matter might be expedited. The employees advocate, Mr. Roberts, said that his side did not ^vant ti) do anything to hamper the industry, but they did want a fair dfeal.
