HASTINGS SCOTS
The Monthly Ingleside The Hastings and District Scots Society held its monthly ingleside in the Oddfellows' Hall, Market street, Hastings. There was a good turn-out of members and their friends. J Chief Priest presided. Mr. H. W. O. .Bairdj in a Tew brief remarks, welcomed Mr. Priest as the new chief, and hoped the members would rally round their new chief as they had done during the six years for which he had occupied the position of chief. Mr. Priest, in reply, thanked Mr. Baird- and said be would do all iu his power to foster tlie intercsts of the society, the welfaro of which he had very much at heart. The concert programme was contributed to by the following; — The Pipe Band, who played some very fine selections; dance items by the Misses Brooker, Knuckey, McCue, McDonald, which were greatly enjoyed, as were also the items of Miss Lorna Wall and Miss Rajnsay. Vocal items by Miss Cunnold, Miss McKay, Mrs. Hayes, Mr. Bentley, Mr. McKay and Mr. Eastwood, which were so g eatly appreciated that all hall to respond to srcore • including Mrs. Guthrie, whose Scotch recitations contained that element of humour typical of the race. A play reading, £'Rory Aforesaid," brought out a good bit of laughter. in the play were: Mrs. Guthrie and Messrs. H. W. C. Baird, Shaw, Farquharson, Guthrie and Storer, Dr. Comrie reading out the directions. This coneluded a very fine programme, the appropriate seleetion of the various items rcflecting great credit on the artists. After supper dancing followedr Miss Collins was accompanist. Piper Watts played for ihe solo dancing. The McKay family stipplied tho danco music and Mr. Guthrie was M.C.
