ALLEGED LIBEL IN FILM
LONBON", May 31. The Daify Herald atates that Prince ' Aloxis • Pavlovich Chegodieff and Prini cess : illena Chegodieff are suing Metrfc-Goldwyn'-Mayer Pictures,- Limited, for ; alleged libel in connection with the film "Rasputin and the Empress," recalling Princess ' Youssoupoff 's aetion in •1934 against the Daily Mail. In 1934 Princess Ilina Alexandrova, otherwise Princess Yous^oupoff, a .cousin of the late Tsar, brought suit against Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, makers of jthe film "Raspnfin and the. Empress," and won a verdict of £25,000 damages. The basis of the action was the identity of Princess Youssoupoff with Natasha, a character in the film who .was Tepresented as having been seduced by the monk Rasputin. Princess Hina c'omplained when the film reaehed- England, and the production was cut in the effort to meet her objection. In addition to damages, Mr Justice Avory granted the Princess an injunction against the defendants restraining them from distribuling Ihe film. The costs, of both sides were estijnaled at £15,000.
