IBj TeleeraDi—

AUCKLAND, This Day The chief feature of the work: at Ellerslie this morning was the schooling of fourteen horses over the steeplechase conntry. This is the largest number. that has ever set out1 for such a trial, and it proved most spectacular. The hurdles were erected on the courae proper, and theTe were numerous echooling bouts over them. No. 1 grass traclc was open for fast work, and there was a fair amount of galloping, the going being heavy. A thiek fog enveloped the course till well after the breakfast intervals, and a number of early gallops could not be timed. The sand track, on which several horses did pace work, and the hurdles in the centre, were also available. The fourteen horses in the trial over a round of the big fences were: — Black Marlin (Baker), lioyal Limond (Beale), Erination (Muir), Pahu (Ridgway), Lncidus (Thomson), Forest GI'ow (M(jGovern), Monastic (Smith), Tea Chat (Turvey), Don Erma (Watson), Valpeen (Thomson), Tangled (Stewart), Pango (McDowell), All Irish (Fergus), and Hot Dance (H. Jones). They started at the sod" wall ax the bottom of the straight, and going ove* the double the first time All Irish led from Don Erma, Valpeen, Pango and Tea Chat, with the rest bunched. Monastic baulked at the donble, and Hot Dance pulled up before teaching the hill. All Irish was still in front at this stage, several lengtfis clear of Don Erma, with Valpeen, Tea Chat, Tangled, Pango and Royal Limond heading the others. Tea Chat slipped into the second fence on fhe hill and eame down. All Irish hit the stonewall at the foofc of the hill, and when' they again reached the sod wall Don Erma was close to him. This pair led over the remaining obstacles from Valpeen, Tangled, Pango, Forest Glow, Erination, Black Marlin, and Royal Limond, the others being some Iengths back. ' ' All Irish, who db a free goer, ga/ve a first-clase display, and Valpeen and Don Erma also did their work impressively, their jumping being first-class. Forest Glow and Black Marlin were not bustled at any stage, though both horses fenced well and could have been closer up. Pango also gave a satisfactory exhibition. Booklaw went out to school over tho same course, but ran off at the second fence of the double, and after baulking three times at the brush near the mile post was not further persevered with. Hurdles On the Course Froper. Collision was the -first to school on' the course proper, and went over four hurdles, giving a fine display. He jumped every fence alike, and his timo from hurdle to hurdle, 1.35, could hav« been eonsiderably reduced. Killadar, Gay Cavalier, Jalldy Karo, and Erase were sent over the eame hurdles, getting through their task safely. They finished as named in 1.26 3-5. Master Musk and Huntsman's Chorus were associated in a similar task in 1.24 4-5. Master Musk inipressed most. ' Gay Broney and High Star made a satisfactory showing over the same obstacles in 1.23 4-5. There was little between them. Rozel (L. Dulieu) and Cynical Kid finished in front of Gadger over four hurdles ou the course proper, finishing their task in 1.23 3-5.
