Italians Blamed (Eeceived .Time 1, 8.45 a.m.) VALENCIA, May 31. An official communique states that a snbmarine of unknown nationality appeared near Bareelona at 1.30 p.m. and lannched a nnmber of torpedoes, sinking the sfceamer Ciudad de Bareelona. Two seaplanes escorting the sliip boinbcI the snbmarine, which disappeared. The satne subinarine earlier fired two torpedoes at tlie merchuntma ) Zorroza. There were 300 passeugers eboard the Ciudad de Barcelonsf, 50 of which are known to have been drowned and many injured, Sixty were saved. It is alleged the submarine was an Italian one. An unknown submarine torpedoed the Spanish ship Sailor Granada off- Catalonia. last evening, killing one man and wounding two, An official communique states that 50 people were drowned pn the Ciudad de Bareelona. Eleven bodies of the crrew have been recovered from the sea. Spanish fishermen picked up a number of survivors and others swam ashore.
