DUNEDIN, This Day. The trial commenced to-day before Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court of Alfred Chapman, aged 33, driver of the tramcar that left the rails on the Opoho line on Apriil 15, and eareered across the footpath, killing Mr John Kenny. i Chapman was eharged with manslaugliter. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr F. B. Adams, stated that the Crown had merely to prove failure to exercise a reasonable degree of care. The evidenee would show that the brakefe and mechanlsm were In perfect order with nothing to account for their supposed failure. (Proceeding.)
