OLD BOYS DEFEAT TAKAPAU BY 8 TO NIL

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. In the most keenly-contested game so far seen at Central Park, Waipukurau, this season, Waipukurau Old Boys defeated Takapau by eight points to nil, The forwards and backs o£ both * sides worked like Trojansall the afternoon, but Old Boys' forwards, by excellent loose play and dribbling, proved the superior team. Takapau played a line defensive game. The teams were: — Takapau: Heperi, lt. Aldridge, Cowan, Halliday, L. Grieson, W. Craig,. Wright, C. Thomson, Harrison, Reid, Johnson, Edgecombe, Bell, Maaka, Marshall. Old Boys: 'Malsh, Galgy, D. -Jamieson, Coles, Brain, Tansley, O. Wilson, Robinson, A Wilson, Reidy. Old Boys' vanguard was particularly itrong, and in the loose they far outshone their opponents. There were 3ome effective attackg" with the ball at fche forwards' feet. The Wilson brothers and Brain were outstanding, although the wbole pack were worthy of the applause they got. The handling of the backs of both teams was most promising. Jamieson, custodian for Old Boys, played a safe game, and his kicking was excellent. The iirst spell ended without score, 1 the play being fairly even. Old Boys came to light • after interval, however, and registered eight points. It was Takapau's first defeat for more than cwo years, and it may be said of them that they went down with their colours flying. They played bright, hard foofcball and showed a particularly sound defence. Their forwards had the best of the set scrums and the line-outs, but their backs were unable to function With their usual vim in the second half, *owing to the bustling tactics of Old Boys. Scorers for Old Boys were: Monteitb (try), 0. Wilson (try), Jamieson (conversion). . Mr Colin Scott (Porangahau) rofereed. JUNIOR CRADE Old Boys (22) defeated Takapau (3). Porangahau (17) defeated Otane (0). THIRD GRADE Waipukurau (18) defeated High School (9).
