Mrs L. Patter, who has been holiday- ■ ing in Auckland, returned home today. Miss Rison, of Queenswood School, left by car yesterday on a short visit to Wellington. Mrs Bryan Todd and Mrs R. A. Whyte, of Wellington, are spending a holiday in Hawke's Bay. The Misses Jean and Doreen Small, Pepper street, Hastings, are spending a fortnight in Wellington. Miss E. M. King has returned to Napier after attending the annual meeting of the Counoil of New Zealand Red Cross Societies, held in Wellington. Mr Selwy n Averill, of Hastings, who has been attending the New Zealand Red Cross Society 's annual meeting in Wellington, has returned to Hastings. Mr W. E. Wilson, of Wellington, wUo has been spending the week-end with Mr and Mrs A. Christie, Havelock North, has returned to Wellington. Miss Elgar Christie is spending a few days with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. Christie, Havelock North, before returning to Wellington. Mrs T. H. Lowry, who has been attending the annual meeting of the New Zealand Red Cross Societies in Wellington, has returned to Hawke's Bay. Mrs Newton, of Kawhia, Auckland, who has been visiting her sisters, Mrs H. J. Webber, of Hastings, and Mrs H. Newton, of Napier, returned home during the week-end. Profe&sor W. P. Evans was eleeted president of the Royal Society of New Zealand in succession to the Bishop oi Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. H. W. Williams. who was eleeted vice-president. Dr. J. E. Hosking has been selected as the recipient of the Hector Award by the Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand in recognition of his researches in the chemistry of New Zealand plants and in resins. Mr G. I. Bickerstaff, of Napier, was successful in completing the final examination of the Australasian Institute of Seeretaries, whose examinations wCre held in March. Messrs V. D. M. Plank and W. Kean," of Hastings, and I. L. Prime, of Napier, secured sectional passes.
