WIN TO HASTINGS
Inter-CIiib Harrier Contest NAPIER TEAM DEFEATED On Saturday the first inter-club Harrier race between Napier and Hastings was decided The contest was wou by Hastings, who scorefi 129 points to their opponents' 173. The event was run over two laps of the Hastings championship course, a distance of 61 miles, commencing from the Hastings racecpurse. The pace Was easy for the first lap, and tne start saw Napier and Hastings runners well bunohed together, with Taylor, Reddy and Hnnt (Hastings) and Goljop and Hughes (.Napier), the pace-makers. The second iap saw Taylor and iteady increase their lead over the rest of the field, with Hughes (Napier)- in close attendanee. The Hastings back-markers wero teaming well and turned the scales in the horae team's favour. The final dash home saw T. Taylor (Hastings) leading Iteady (Hastings) and Hughes (Napier) to the tape. Bower (H-), 41,11 11 J, Staehan (N.), 41.47 22 After the race the ladies' qommittee of the Hastings club served afternoon tea, fpr which they were accorded a vote of thanks. Messrs, F. N. Jtoherts president of the Hastings club, and A. Jtobertsoij, olubTcaptain, welco'med the Napier visitors. The Napier secretary Mr. D. Martin, suitably replied, congratulating Hastings on their victory and predicting a keen struggle next timo the two clubs tneet in coinpetition. -Last Monday evening J.2 Hastings members traniped to the Peak and back, an excellent night's trainjng. This wi|l be a weekly event in future. Next Saturday the club will hold a pack ruu over the Havelock bills, Thursfiay Run, Last week the Thursday division of tbc Hastings llarirer Club held its weekly i;un from tlie Hastings Haeecourse. Approxiniately eight miles was covered over the country adjoining the golf-links and aerodrome. The run in resultod as follows:— J. O'Shea 1, T. Manley 2, A. de Frere 3. Next Thursday the run will be l'rom Beatson's Park over a trail to be laid by J. O'Shea.
