WIN FOR TECHNICAL O.B,

Evenly-Contested Game with Hastings LOSERS UNLUCKY Though. in actual play Technical Old Boys just shaded Hastings all the way in their game on the No. 1 area at Nelson Park. the excollegians emerged victors by 11 points to nil. The game was evenly contested and productive of some interesting Rughy. Hastings were most unlucky in not at least scorlng twice. but it was a game inj which defence was excellent throughout The teams were: — Technical O.B.- — Rossiter; Cushiug, Plested, Herbert; Byford, Peterson; Riddell; Skitrupp, Dalton, RopdelJ; Murray, Bowman, Campbell, Dallimore; W. J ohnston . Hastings. — Pyer; Haughton, Nelson, Robertson; Gillies, Cooke; McVay; Chadwick, Tate, McNab; Wright, Wilson, MeDonald, Croft; Aldridge. First to attack were Hastings, but they held play on the visitors' quarterway and were (seldom dangerous. The nearest they got to seoring was when Neleson missed with a free-kick at goal. Technical then got busy, and in onp great riigh Campbell just failed to make contact with a yolling ball, Hastings .having a let-off. Botji sides were making plenty of use of their backs, but both divisions lacked sting. The seoring opened with a penalty goal in fayour of Technical, aud shortly afterwards both Nelson and Haughton. narrowly missed seoring tries. The home forwards, too, frequently broke away, but were stopped well by Rossiter. The play was full of fnteresting and bright movempnts, in which the teams took it in turns to sweep up and down field. Technical held a slight territorial advantage. Just before thB interval. the Technical forwards broke away in a particularly fine rugh, first dribbliug the ball tQ past halfway and then handling in a good short-passing boiut, for Johnston to fiqiish off the movement with a good try near the pbsts. The score at the interval was 8--0." After the chahge-'oygr Technical for a long time held a territorial advantage and gradually wore down the Hastings defences with their persistency. There was a spell of scrappy passing by tho Tecbnical backs, and one brief movement terminated in Herbert throwing himself over at the corner for an unconverted try. iFollownng this reverse Hastings rajlied well and for . the remainder of thp game they se'fc a hot pace. They continually pressed hard all along the goal-front, but could not find a weaknesp in the TeclmiGal defence. Rossiter," particularly, wa's outstanding in „ this regard. -The game enfied without further igcoring. The scorers were: — ^Technical O.B.: W. Johnston (penalty goal and try), Herbert (try and conversion), \ Mr D. Graham was referee.
