20 ROUNDS OF FIGHT

Boxing Attraction for Next Week SEASON TO OPEN The 1937-38 boxing eeason in Hawke' s Bay will be oiiicially opened at the Hastings Municipal Theatre next Eriday night, when a wonderiul double-bill programme will be staged. ' The H.-B.B.A. has revealed remarkable initiative ahd has arranged for a series of contests to take place during the next few months with the definite objective of bringiing the sport back to its former status of popularity. When approached to take part in the series of tournaments 20 out of the 30 professional boxers so invited accepted the offers made to them, indicating that they at least were appreciative oi the efforts being made by the proinoting association. The aim of the association is to parade before Hawke's Bay fans an array of fistic talent never seen before in any one, two or even three seasons. The idea is t.o stage two 10-round professional fights at each tournament, in addition to the usual preliminary amateur prograinine. ,, 4 Should any of the competitors give first-class accounts of tkemselves then they will be called upon 'later to take part in further bouts. Everything depends on the boxers themselves as to whether they will be persevered with ot not and this should ensure the spectators getting full value for their admission costs. The first quartette selec-ted from the score of professionals offering included two most promising ligktweights, ltalpn Aitken, of Wellington, and Allau Parker, of Palmerston North; and two earnest welterweights, Don Glengarry, of Wellington, and Sid Smith, of Lower Hutt. More will be made of these principals later. In the meantime readers are recouimended to keep next Friday night clear for this most promising programme of boxing.
