OFFICER FAREWELLED

Government Veterinarian Transferred STAFF PRESENTATION ' Members of the staff of the Departjnent of Agriculture met at the Hastings office yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr. E. E. Elphick, who, for the past 11 years, has been Government Veterinarian in this district, and who has "now been transferred to Palmerston North. Mr. N. J. Adamson, in presenting Mr. Elphick with a piece of silver plate, •xpres&ed the general Tegret of hi9 brother officers at Mr. Elphick 's departure. During his term of service in Hawke 's Bay Mr. Elphick had carried out his duties in a most conscientious manner and the happiest relationships had always exi'sted between him and the other offi ers. Mr. J: D. S. Heaton, representing the neat.inspection staff, also paid tribute to Mr. Elphick's services. He had been f n cxcellent supervisor, a counsellor and ® friend, and all of the meat inspeetors were sorry that he was leaving. Several messages from officers of the department situated in other parts of the Hawke 's Bay district were read by Mr Adamson, these ineluding letters from Messra. R. de B. Hill, /W. D GilMson. T. Killip, A. Kinghorn and F. Stewart. Mr. Elphick replied suitably, and thanked the gathering for its kind expressions. Opportunity was also taken of welOoming the new veterinary officer, Mr. A. D. N. G. Laing.
