WAIPAWA SOCIAL EVENING
First Reunion of. Old Pupils' \ Association (From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIPAWA, Last Night. The first Teunion social of the Waipawa D.H.S. Secondary Old Pupils1 Association, which has now been in existence- for - some eighteen months, was held in the Municipal Concert Hall last evening, there being a large attendance of members nad friends. That success had attended the efforts of the executive committee in arranging this entertainment, was evidenced by the keen appreciation of the audience, who greeted each item with rounds of applause. The committee " were extremely > fortunate in • liaving' the services of I Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Stevenson (Napier) 1 and Mr. J. MacNamara (of Station 2ZH), who delighted the gathering with a 'number of vocal solos, and Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson who contributed several duets. None the less popular were the vocal numbers of Mr. B. Venner, and Mr. J. Barker ( Waipawa) - and of Miss Collins (Otane) and elocutionary items by Miss G. Major received well-merited applause. A short sketch by Miss G. Major and Miss G. Wiggins, "First Thing In the Morning,11 created a great deal of amusement. The accompaniments were excellently played by Miss Winifred McCarthy (Napier) and Mesdames Drake and Strahg, and the duties of M.O. and organiser were carried out by Mr. E. O. Kingston. At the conclusion of the programme the president" of the association, Mr. E. J. Watts, briefly addressed the gathering expressing the pleasure of the committee at such a large attendance and. urging on past pupils the desirability of becoming members to keep up their associations .with the school. He also extended to the performers the sincerest thanks of the committee for their kindness in so readily giving assistance, and ena^ling tho success which had been achieved. A delightful savoury supper was then served and the arrangements in this connection, in the capable hands of Mr. H. Weedon, left nothing to be desired. A iearty vote of thanks to the performers was carried by acclamation, and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
