BAILLIE MOTORS, LTD.
Fine Modern Building Lrected A number of iine modern buildings in brick and stone have been • erected in Hastings during the eix years since the earthquake, but the new premises of Baillie Motors, Ltd., which have been opened for business this weok, compare fa-vourably with any of them. The building is a single-storey oue carried out on striking modern lines in brick and concrete' .tmted green with white facings. It occupies a corner site at the intersecbion o± Hastings and Eastbourne streets. Its convenient iqeation and easy accessibility are -important attributes of the garage. It stands immediately behind the Municipal Theatre, and- gives access from Doth Eastborne and- Hastings streeUs by several different entrances. Unusual to most garages, there ds a concrete parking area of over 9000 square feet which, at the moment, is. "9pen air," but forms part of a plau ' of building extension already contemplated. At an early date, it is anticipated, a complete structure in keeping with tha present architecture wai be erected, ccvering the whole-. area, aggregatmg more than 14,000 square feet The spacious showroom embodies 85 feet of plate-glass show window, giving a display rarely seen in a provincial town, Modern offices with adequate tioating arrangements .provide comforfc for the staif, and comptete a building which is a credit to the town. Spccual attention has been paid to lighting by meaiie of extensive window space aud skylights. At night the whole interior is flooded by the use oi a new type of mirrored ehades. An interesting f eature is an electri cal car-turntable, mounted on which is the Vauxhall 14 h.p. de Luxe saloon. This ds revolving by an electric motor and aro'uses interest from the fact that the revolving car gives the onlooker ihe fullest impressione of graeeful body lines and modern conlours. A fine show of the latest models i3 displayed, including the new Vauxhall 25 h.p. fouf-door saloon and several types of the new Vauxhall 14 h.p. saloon. Bedford trucks, ranging from the smart eight .h.p. express delivery van to the heavy-duty types of 30 cwt. and upwards, and the 1937 "Silver Streak" Pontiacs, combine in making the whole ensemble outstanding and singularly attractive. Considerable attention has been paid to service faeilities, and the latest types of precision machinery have been introduced.
