Growth . in Recent Yeart A large increase in trade between. Jfew Zealand and the East was commented upon,by the Napier Chamber of Gommerce at its meeting last night. : Following . receipt of a circular from the Assoclated Chambers of Commerce urging the desirability of using the direct steamship services to the East, members commented on the increase during; the past few years in trade with the East, particularly in che export of -tallow to Japan. _ "You will be aware how much consideration has been "given in the past by Chambers of Commerce and other bodies to the question of greater trade with the East," said the circular, "and the fact that no great progress could ■be made along this line owing to the lack of shipping facilities. Now that direct shipping connection is available it is urged that full use should be made by New Zealand exporters of these shipping lines so . as to extend New Zealand's exports." "I think that this chamber has already taken advantage of the direct shipping services," commented the chairman, Mr L. C. Rolls, "and we .have found : that Japan is very anxious to extend trade in tallow out here." , ■ MrS. V. Ayling: Tallow, pelts, casein, and a lot of milk powder are going to Japan. . Members agreed that the export of New Zealand primary products to Japan had. steadily increased during the past years.
