HAWKE'S BAY HUNT
Good Day'$ Sport At Mangatani MANY RUNS MADE [Contributed.] By courtesy of Mr Harry Simmonds hounds met at the Mangatahi Plantation. The Master worked hounds first among the pine plantation on the hills and down towards the river. A strong haro wae found which crossed the main road and across Mr Taukersley 'a country to the riverbed, where hounds lost owing. to the numerous hares in tho gorsf. After some delay hounds. were brought back to Mr Simmonds' ground aiid on the flats put up a strong hare that gave a great run across country ,to the riverbed, where it was killed among the willows. Aliuost immediately another hare got up which crossed the river and made across the Olrig road, where hounds liad to bo whipped off. After this the liunt came back to Mr Simmonds' paddocks, adjoining Glenelg, where hares were numerous. Twice they circled the hills, returning to tho boggy ground near the river, where hounds gave a very pretty display of working out their line, unfortunately without succcss. The last scent that was picked up took the huat to Mr Simmonds' homestead and on to Mr Sutherlands ground and from there to Glenelg, giving the field some very big fences. This proved the 'last run 6f the day, and the hunt came in ahout 4 o'clock. It was definitely a good day's hunting. t Those followin'g were: — The Mastor, on Stroller, deputy-Master, Mr J. N.
