TENNIS CLUB BALL AT WAIPUKURAU AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS
Simple But Effective Decorations Waipukurau 'a aociai year wouid not be complete without the Waipukurau Lawn Tennis Club's ball, and good music, a good floor and a jolly crowd of dancers, who had como from many parts of Central Hawke 's Bay, all nelped to make this ball, which was held dn the Municxpal Theatre, Waipukurau, last night, an outstanding success. The decorations, though simple, wero most eli'ective. The tall columna in the dance hall were entwined with greenery and coloured flotvers, while the orchestral dais at the upper end of hall was trellised in similar decorations. Easy chairs and soi'as were arrangod on the Stage and big bowle of gorgeous chrysanthemums placed on small tables looked most effective, The front ef the stage was filled in with greenery and masses of bronze and yellow chrysanthemums. In the supper-room, a delicious homemade supper was served, The long tables, spread with white linen clothsv wer© decorated with bowls of orange marxgolds, red berries and bronZe aud yellow chrysantheiiiuins. ln the downstair supper-room the delicious fruit sexyed was mucli appreciated by the dancers. Popular dance tnusxc was supplied by the Kew Majestic Dance Band, extras being , played by Mrs Jack O Teilly, who had to respond to encares. The success of the function was enftrely due to the eommittee who had woi'ked hard for the occasion. Also great credit is due to MisS Holen Hunter, the organiser, and the two socretariea, Miss Hazel Moorhfead aud Miss J. Ormond, assisted by the followitig eommittee; JHesdame3 J, H. Walker, H E. Moorhead, pale green, flowered in rose pink poppies, the corsage having narroW tucks foruxing cascade frills. Miss J. Ormond, attraciive frock m petrel-blue chiifon, the i'ull skirt pleated in front, and pink roses in corsage, w.orn with a matcbing ruched cape. Mrs J! A. Mciiean, smaxtly fashioned frock in black cloque with gceen veivet liowers on corsage. Mrs J. H. Walker, paic orange chiffon veivet, having a trained skirt. Mrs H. E. Coats, pale green taffeta flowered in pale pink roses. Miss P. Olark, black chiffon veivet tuxiic, having a hared basque and wide skirt worn with a smart pink lloral stitched belt. Miss A, Wilder, graceful gown in black lace, having long plaited shoulder strap and wlnte roses on neckline. Aliss S. McLaughlaii, pai'chment satin, sinartly fashioned with big cream roses on one shoulder. Aliss Mary Bucbanan, wearing a seagreeu cloque skirt with a long liared tunic in beige lace, pink rose on neckline. Miss Melva Riddell, Coronation blue watered tatleta with red veivet fiow-" ers at back of the waistline. Mre I. W. N. Mackie, model goivn in inulterry ring veivet, having a wide gold belt, worn with gold shoes. Mrs O. Giblin, black satin, the back of the (corsage prettily embroidered in big pink and white roses.
