■WELLINGTON, Last Niglxt. The candidates for appointment to short service commissioxis in the Boyal Air Eorce and the Boyal New Zealand Air Forc© were announeed this evening by the Minister of Defen'ce (Hon. 1\ Jones), Applications for these appointments were invited at the end of March. Twenty-nine candidates have so far been appointed — four to short servico commissions in the Boyal New Zealand Air Force, seven for training in New Zealand prior to their appointment to short service commissions in the Boyal Air Force and 18 for direct eittry into the Boyal Air Force. "All the applicants who complied with the minimuni requirements as to age and education were interviewed by the selection committee and as a result 167 candidates were selected for medical examination," said Mr. Jones. "Ee explained that the ilnal result of all the medical examinations was not yet complete, but that it was now possible to announce that the following candidates had been selected for appointment for short service commissions in the Boyal New Zealand Air Force: — . Dive, H, P, B., Waitoa. Ward, D. H., WhangareL Johnstono, A.N., Manurewa, Auckland. ' ' Bobertson, L. A.y Auckland. " These candidates will be required to report at the Wigram aerodrome, Ohristchurch, on June 8 for training. McClelland, N., Canterbury. - Most of these candidates will be required 'to leave New Zealand early in July but they will eaeh be advised by ■letter within the nest few days. The" appointment of an engineerofficer to a permanent commission in the Boyal New Zealand Air Force has hot yet been flnalised, but it is expected that an announcement concerning this will be made within the next few davs.
