• -F5L ,1. . Export Barred In Swromer Monkeys ar'e gecred in India but the • popularity of monkey-gland treatmeut in foreign countries had made the export of them a lucrative business. It is estimated that from the Dnited Prnvinces alone more than 100,0(56 of these animals are sent annually tp Bombay and Calcutta for export. It is alleged that cruelty in the past marked this trade and thkt there have been cases of monkeys dying of thirst and suffocation in overcfowaed crates. The Government of India have come to the conclusion that the only means to end any cruelty there may be is to prohibit, ait 'any rate during the not weather, the export of monkeys. A notification to this effect has now bcen issued under the Sea Custome Act.
