No Tree Sense at All?

. MATEB

Sir, — Can you be more than thoroughly disgusted? Because, if so, I am at the suggestion being made that the trees in Nelson Park should be out back. Have we no tree sense at all in Hawke's Bay? To cultivate it, I would suggest that North Islanders pay a visit to the South Island, where trees in all their variety of glory are 'a feature of every landscape. Christchurch was breath-taking in its beauty of trees this autumn, and even the Press broke into paeans of praise of the autumn fcolouring in the parks. It wa3 indeed good to read that the Borough Council had deferred .its decision on the cutting-back of the trees in Nelson Park. In a year or so, ac-_ cording to Mr George Ebbett, in you* Borough Jubilee issue, Nelson Park will be open to the general publie, and these trees will then come into their full usefulness as shade for mothers and children. It would be more fitting if the council would consider further planting in the park for future benefit than to be asked to contemplate cutting back trees now in their full beauty.. Should not the powers-that-be in the sports world be looking round for new ground s. to which the present stands could be moved when Nelson Park is indeed a park and the resting-place for young and old that was the original int.Gntinn nf ita fvxisteilceS— ^ Yours.
