A Bilbao message( states that rebel Heinkel flghters shot down a British-madq Air Speed UnvQy plane caxrying mails and five passenger?, including a woman, »u of whom were slightly injured. Thh pilot, M. GaHi, was sent to hosph taL He made a masterly landing, averting complete disaster. The plan belonged to Air Pyrenees, a French line working the BayonneBilbao air seryice, and ga/me down at Sopelann, nine milqs frqm Bilbao. It was partly destroyed. Rebel nircraft had previously chased the machine, but it had always outdistaneed them. M. Galli said he became aware that hp was being followed by insurgent planes, but was not disturbed beeause the plane wa? clearly jmarked ''Air Pyrenees"; but later he became hemmed iu by insurgent maohineB, which opened heavy enachine-gun fire. "My windscreen was cracked," he said, "and I suppose the glass injured my head. The passengers flattened themselves on the floor, Thq engines failed as I searched for a landiug-place. I lost conseiousness the jnoment th# plane touched the grouud."
