TAR-SEALED ROADS
County Will Complete Those on Flat This Year THE £5000 LOAN Tar-sealing of all the roads on the flat Is hoped to be cOmpleted by the Hawke's Bay County Council this year. In his jannual report jto the council, the tohairman, Mr F. B. Logan states that A loan of £5000, repayable in three years, has been obtained from the Main Highway s Board to deffay the costs of the operations. "The cqpncil was forced to abandon the tar-sealing programme last year," stated the report, "the only sealing done being the Hastings-Bridge Pa road and the widenittg of the NapierHastings -highway. This year .the council hopes to complete the sealing of all roads on the flat and has been successful jn> obtaining from the Main Highways Board a loan of £5000, repayable in three, years, to cover its cost of the work." A review of the hard-surfaced roading poiicy was also given in the report, demonstrating that on State Mghways witliin the county, roads to a total length of 70.5 miles, 33.75 miles are in Inetal, 26.45 in asplialt, 5.10 is asphalt concrete, and 5.20 in cement concrete. Of the main : highways and ridings roads, 823.33 miles of a total road length of 862.90 miles are in metal, 38.42 in asphalt, and 1.15 in asphalt concrete. , A table of work in progress on main Mghways is as follows: — Main Highways.'
