Archbishop Averill Is "Very Disappointed." NOT ENCOURAGING
tBr Talearanh—
AUCKLAND., This Day. "Very disappointing," said Archbishop Averill, replying to an interviewer coneerning the rents announced , by the Government for State houses. "I was anxious to see that provision was made for married people in ordor to enpourage families," added His Grace. "My view is that houses of moderate rentals should have bee» built." Trades Union officials confessed disappointment at the scale of rentals but explained tha't they were not unreasonable in view of building costs and prevailing Tentals. Our suggestion was that the- scale was indication of the need for the Arbitration Court to fix a higher living wage and for the Government to take steps to produce building materials. •
