Waipukurau Hospital cardens. Nourished by several days' rain, the flowers, shrubs and lawn at the Waipukurau Puhlic Hospital are looking their best j.ust now. The new lawn laid down last March has firmly established itselfj and greatly improves the appearance of the hospital precincts. 6 Hospital Board Patients. The various institutions of tho Waipawa Hospital Board have experienced some busy months of late, the number of patients having reached and maintained the 200 xnark some time ago. At present there are 207 patieaits in the various institutions, 132 at the Pukeora. Sanitorium, 70 at the Waipukurau Public Hospital and five at the Ratkbone Maternity Annexe. Donatlon of £s. A donatiou of £5 has been. made by the Wallingford Combined Sports Clubs towards the Waipukurau Mayor's list of donations to the King George V Memorial Fund. The Mayor's list has at present donations to the value of £64 2/6. Red Cross In Wairoa. A branch of the Red Cross Society is to be formed in Wairoa. Major Abel addressed a meeting on Saturday, and all present were entliusiastic about the project. A meeting is to be held on Friday, when a committee will be -elected and plans for future working discussed. - Sohooig Re-bpen. School children of Waipukurau re-. turned to lessons yesterday, having finished their term holiday s. The headmaster of the local school reported that the attendance was satisfactory. Miss Lindsay andi Mr E. M. Marshall began duty at the secondary fjepartment. Labour Party Dance. The Otane branch of the Labour Party held another of its popular dances on Saturday night. There was a good attendance and a most enjoyable timo was spent, the music being played by Mrs Meta. A dainty supper was served by the' ladies' committee, under the supervision of Meedames Huston, Baikie and Baucke. School at Waipawa. During his recent visit to Wellington Mr G. A. Maddison, ekairman of the Hawke's Bay Education Board, sought information from the Pepartment con-. cerning the delay in authorising a start to be made with the new primary school at Waipawa. He was advised that everything was in order and the I authority was °nly awaiting the signaj ture of the Minister of Education. The Hon. P. Fraser will be visiting Dannevirke on Wednesday next, and the member for the district, Mr H. M. Christie, has undertaken to bring the urgency of the matter before him. Waipawa County Council. The annual statutory meeting of the Waipawa County Council will be held at noon on Wednesday, when the election of the cliairman and deputy-chair-man will take place. The chairman will also present a report reviewing the roperations of the county in the past year. »
