Coombe Wins at Paris PARIS, May 22. ■ In the French tennis championship the resufts are: — Men's singles.— -First round: D. Coombe (New Zealand) beat Hadingham, 6- — 0, 6- — 2, 6 — 1. Second' round: Austin (Britain) beat Rodel (France), 5—7, 6—0, 6—3, 6—4. Men's doubles. — Quarter-final: Von Cramm and Henkel beat Feret and Lesuer, 6—2, 11 — 9, 8 — 6. Semi-final: Von Cramm and Henkel (Germany) defeated Hughes and Tuckey (Britain), 6—4, 6 — 2, 4 — 6, 6—8, 6 — 3; Farquharson and Kirby (South Africa) had a walk-over against the holders, Borotra and Bernard, the latter being indisposed. The Germans' defeat of t^e British prospective Davis Cup players was due to von Cramm 's superiority in serving and driving and Henkel 's deadliness at the net. The British pair evened when von Cramm tired, but the German -rallied'in the final set.
