Leaking Hydrogen The Cause (Received 24, 8.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, May ?3. Dr. Hugo Eckener, desig^ier of the Zeppeliu. Hindenburg, in evidence at the United States Department of Commerce inquiry into the crash of the dirigible at Lakehurst, said he believed that hydrogen leakiug from a gas cell and ignit-ed by static electricity caused the disaster. He said he considered that the sharp turn taken by the airship during her landing manoetxvres broke the shear wire at the stern and the loose end of the wire punctured a gas cell. Hg discounted the sabotage theory as an explanatioii of the crash and I 1'ound flaws in other theories advauced.
