Near the end of the game, after fortunes had fluctuated throughout, the competition leaders were two points in arrears, and although they made this up, they were forced to tackle hard and often to stem the Technical rush. The superior back llne of the winners proved their salvation, but Technical's forwards were a shado the better. The teams were : — ■ Marist: 13. Allen, R. White, J, McM. O'Brien, F. Armstrong, G. The latter team then pushed forward, to the linef whore Moss, at the base of the scrum worked the blind side/nicely to send White over near the posts. Hargraves missed an easy kick. At this stage of the game lreland was consistently heating Oalton to the ball, but poor passing by Marist robbed them of many opportunities to score. • When Technical' s turn came to attack White inconsiderately robbed one of their men of the ball, and exploiting the change of pace that makes his running so dangerous, eluded Rossiter and outdistanced three opponents in a 55 yard dash for the line for a fine try. The huge crowd applauded this effort' vigorously, but Hargraves missed the kick. Technical attacked again, and from a scramble in the com.er, Herbert went over, failing to convert his own try. From a further scrum near the line Technical exploited the art of screwing ihe scrum., and Riddell daslied over for a quick try." Herbert Cottvefted. Just before half time, Robins intercepted, and after dummying Rossiter, rau 45 yards to score, Hardgraves converting. The second speU brought considerable excitemeUt. Technical attacked hard» and when Allen, nnaccustomed to his lull-hack position, failed to clear Campbell went over, Herbert converting, to place Technical two points ahead. Marist hammered hard to make up th© leeway, but they did not have tfiings all their own way and it Was not till near the end of tne gjame that Moss and Robins engineered a dropp^'5 goal, Although they strove hard to score again, Teohnical were still bebehind when the whistle sounded.
