IN CRITICAL PERIOD
AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL Australian Rules football is going through a criticai period in South Australia. It is the habit these days for country associations to go out of existence, while others are just hanging on. It is caused hy the grabbing of players by the city clubs. S.A. League delegations will visit Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta this month to attempt to re-form the Yorke Peninsula Association. It was one of the most notable in the State. Football will not be played . at Mt. Gambier this winter, and a League delegation will shortly go there to sift the pros and cons. The question is being asked whether the League might not find the solution of their problem much nearer home. Each year the Adelaide League clubs have their scouts out in the country. Players wlio show any ability are asked to sign on the dotted line. Right throughout the football season the clubs are active in this direction. Numerous defections from country football teams has had a serious* effect on the game. For three years at ileast League clubs have gone through the country teams with a fine comb.
