WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Te Awapuni Meeting Te Awapuni Women 's Institute held tbeir May meeting in the G.F.S. room when Mrs. Gordon presided. After ropeating the aspiration, business was attended to and the seijretary read a lctter from Pakowhai Women 's Institute inviting members to their birthday party on June 3. She also read a song written and composed by Mr. P. H. Tomoana in honour of Te Awapuni Institute and its work. The , tune used was "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes," and members promised to leam the words and have a, practico next meeting. Mrs. Campbell, the delegate to the recent federation meeting, gave a most interesting report and was heartily thanked. Mrs. Gordon demonstrated petapai cookery. This is a prepared paper in appearance like greaseproof but is absolutely waterproof and is washablo. Mrs. Gordon showed the vegetables (in this instano^ potatoes and parsnips, but any kjnd of vegetable can be used) damped the paper, put the potatoes in and tied them up. With the parsnips was added a little butter and they were tied up. Then both parcels wero put into boiling water and cooked. Members sampled them and voted them excellent. This method of cookery eliminates the washing of many saueepans, as .all vegetables cau. be cooked in oue pot in their various parcels. Spinach is specially good this way and any gravy can' be used as- a basis for soups. * " • .■ " The Dionne doll compotition was finalised, and Mrs. Nepe -p'roYed the winner. Mrs Bennett told ' of her recent visit to the Napier Hospital to" see the Maori patients there. ' • ' ' " Afternoon tea and a goclal half hour followed and the singing of *tlje National Anthem closed the meeting.
