Mr E, V. Simpson has again been appointed the representative of tho Hastings Borough CoimcQ on the Hasl- , ing^ High SchooJ Board of > Governors. Lieut. T. Heighway, of Hastings, and Secretary S. Piekering of Napier, left by the mail train this morning to attend a conference of the Legion of Frontiersmen at Christchurch. Dr. K. E. Cromptonv* of Havelock North, has been appointed to represent the Hastings Borough Council on the management committee of the Hawke's Bay Art Society. The Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, and Cr. G. W. B. McC'ormick were last night re-elected the Hastings Borough Couucil's representatives on the Hastings Fire Board. Mr J. D. Ormond, junr., a member of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, Mr T. le C. Powdrell, a member of the electoral committee of the board, and Miss J. Ormond were visitors to Gisborne yesterday. Mr M. J. White. of London, son of Mr W. J. White, who was formerly of the Marine Department, Napier, and now stationed at Dunedin, has been successful iii passing the Board of .Trade exaindnation for the second-cla9s engineer'e certificate The Mayoress, Mrs G. A. Maddison, is to receive the congratulatdons of tlie Hastings Borough Council on the recognition aceorded her by the inclusion oi her name in the list of those awarded the Coronation medal. When moving a motion to this effect at the meeting of the council last evening, the deputyMayor, Mr A. I. Rainbow, said that Mrs Maddison had taken a leading and aetive part in civic affairs during the .past 12 years and that she had earned the respect and affechion of tho whole of the community.
