r MASTERTON^ Last Night. , a novel poeition has jarisen regarding the organisaJtion and staffing of Wairairapa Gollegje which is an amalgamation of the Wairarapa High School and the Masterton Technical School. Under the advice of the Education Pepartment the board hil'herto admmistering the • two schools has been proceeding wjth the organisation and staffing of the new .eombined school. The %&sk was far . advanced to completion, but under thc opinion now ob.tain.ed from the Solicj-tor-General it fippears that the existing board has no power to administer and .control the eombined school. Th,e positfon was ejcplained to the board by the Minister of Education (Hon. P. Fraser) who attended a special meeting pf the board to-night accompanied by Messrs Lambourne and Cara- • ,dus. The new board is to be consti- ! tnted by Order-in-Council on fhe same • basis of representation as the present board. The wprk of staffing the new sehool ; will have to be done over again. The • amalgamated school wBl now sfart its ; career at the beginning of 1938 instead pf at the begiuniTig of the last term this year. The Minister made it clear that th« board had acted on the advice of the department which had been given ia ; good faith. His own opinion was that the spirit and intention of the law ha been observed but the opinion of the - Solicitor-General showed that the letter ^ ■of the law had not. :
