THE NEW ZEALAND EXPERIMENT.
"New Zealand is doing now much the same thing as it did 35 years ago — trying all sorts of advan'ced ideas of social Iegislation, '» said Mr. R, H. Nesbitt, fornier Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, in an interview with the Christchurch Press. "Soino of those things which were tried out at the beginning of the century in New Zealand have since been taken and adapted in other countries, with success. New Zealand then was the crucible in which various chemieals of social Iegislation were tested. Now it is the same again. You have a small population end are strong enough to take the risk of experiment. If you succeed other countries may follow you, and if you fail — well, it is to be hoped the price you pay is not too high."
