Prospects for To-morrow BIG FIELDS IN ALL EVENTS
(Bs Teleeranh-
AUCKLAND, This Day. While the fields for the seven events at Te Rapa to-morrow are of very solid proportions, they do not constitute a record in numhers for the course at winter meetings. Nevertlieless the Waikato Racing Club has every reason to be gratified with the response made by ownerg, and while the going will be heavy there should be some entertaining racingj while the large fields will furnish. plenty of scope on the win and place totalisators. The form at this meeting td-morrow and- again on Monday may prove inyaluable as a guide to the Auckland winter fixture, particularly in the big events. In the main flat handicap to-morrow ail those engaged, with two exceptions, are also in the Cornwall Handicap, while only one in the Coronation Steeplechase is not in the big event at Ellerslie over the hill. In the Waikato Hurdles, eleven of the sixteen are in. the Great Nortliern Hurdles. SteeplecHase Hopes. Sixteen is quite a large field lor the big attraction to-morrow, the Coronation Steeplechase, and it is to be hoped that it is not quite so eventful a race as last year, .when the event was a chapter of accidents. interest will be taken in the Hawera winners Don Erma and Monastic, botb of whom are very well, with the later susceptible to improvement. Don Frma gave a dashing display last week at Hawera and may be difheult to beat. Tudor is almost certain ,to be one of the favourites. Billy Boy won last year and he went well at Ellerslie a month ago until his condition gave out. Windsor Lad may not be quite tuned up for tliree miles, but he is forward enough to spring a surprise. Alegrerto it a great fencer; not much is known as to his condition, although he must be forward. Forest Glow was the disappointmeut of the Egmont Steeplechase, his form being below his best and he may show improvement. Pahu stays as well as ever and Cynical Kid was sclxooling brilliantly last week at home. Black Marlin may be a good performer over country and he is a likely surprise packet. Sporting Song is on the up grade and two wins and a second in three etarts over country is certainly an auspicious beginning. Royal Limond does not appeai, for speed rather than fencing ability tells here, and Golden England is just a possibilityi It is a difficult race to sum up so early in the season, b'ut the vote goes to Tudor and Don Erma. Hawke's Bay Hurdler The position in the. Waikato Hurdles is a bit clearex*, but with a richer stake on tho Monday it may be a tricky event. Jolly Beggar will be well tried out, for he has 201bs more than he won with last year. A very formidable combination will be the Erination-Master Musk bracket, Sandy Dix, Lord Val (the pick of the Great Nortliern Hurdles handicap), Pango, Royal Mimic, Bougbal, Brigadore and Collision all have briglit prospects. The bracket and Royal Mimic are iiicely placed. With 20 in the President's Handicap the early burst for positions going out of the straight is going to help solve the problem. Kelly will be one of the favourites here, for he won at Whangarei with 9.5 and then ran second with 9.13 in soft ground, so with 41b less than he has in the Cornwall Handicap he may be a briglit proposition, King Rey, Scotland, Korero, Tybalt, Dark Shadow, Bonny Gay, Day Wind, Royal Dance, Horowhenua, Gay Rose and Te Hai seem to be the pick . of the field, with Kelly, and of thds divisiou most faith may he pinned on Kelly and Dark Shadow. Sprinting Mudlark. / Prince Acre is such a good mudlark chat he will have to be seriously reckoned with in the sprint, the.Stewards' Handicap, • with its big field to make it more difficult. There are many others in this race with cliances, so that it is the most open race of the day. The other events have filled very wel! indeed and winners are not going to be easy to find. The following horses may be well supported to-morrow: — 11.15: HACK AND HUNTERS ' STEEPLECHASE. — Kinkle, Curlew, Pango or Pennyplain. 12.0: OTOROHANGA HACK.— Royal Passage, Jan Ridd, Yalspear. 12.45: WAIKATO HURDLES — Royal Mimic, Enination-Master Musk bracket, Sandy Dix. 1.30: PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP.— Kelly, Royal Dance, Horowhenua. 1.15: CORONATION STEEPLECHASE, — Don Erma, Tudor, Forest Glow. 3.0: STEWAllDS' HANDICAP.— Petcr Beckford, Tooley Streot, Black Thrcad. 3.45: HOROTIU HACK.— Royal Mistake, Ringshot, Professional.
