Even Quality Fields To-morrow REVIEW OF RUNNERS
(By '
The ».nual race meeting of the Ta-ratahi-Oarterton Racing (Jlub will be held to-nioi'row, when iields of even quality and going likely to be good should furnish elose racmg. The betting will be of the single pool. Wananga, Wasteland and Hunting Spi may be the only representatives fr5in Hawke 'e Bay, as First Chapter is a doubtful starter. Following is a raview of the various events: — maiden plate. * Knightsbridge on the second day of the recent Hawke's Bay meeting, was seen finishing well in the Juvenile Handicap among very fair company. Gattee More and Eoyal Portrait have both been in minor places lately. Mother-in-law in juvenile events earlier in the season more than once oceupied a minor place, always showing signs of staying on. The favourites may be MOTHEB-IN-LAW, ROYAL POKTRAIT and KNIGHTSBRIDGE. CARRINGTON HIGHWEIGHT. Wananga meets the eye as being back to form. Laggard has a race of this^sort to his credit this season, but liis running of late has been below that Trentham form. Yousipof has not won for about twelve months, 'so is well overdue. Gasmask has a few minor races to his credit down Nelson way, while Impersonator is said to be on the improve, for which there is ample room. Gay Mulla may do best of the others. Most public support may be forthcoming for WANANGA, GAY MTJLLA and IMPERSONATOR. "wairarapa county cups Korero ran consistently at Otaki for a first and third, but tk'ere had the goung xight to his liking. Hazoor has Leen racing indilferently this last six months, but Rona Bay was an easy winner in her last attempt. Helen Ford sticks on well, but appears to be handicapped for the want of a strong horseinan. Darecourt is a posibility on recent form, but The Sandwichman may be out of his class. The best backcd look ldke being KORERO, HELEN FORD and RONA BAY. carterton hacr. Dorado won at Otaki, where Alunga ran so disappointingly \that many refuse to accept it as being anywhere near the Speardance geldmg's xight form. Dianiond Cutter is only an average hack, but Sunny Blonde's two minor placings at Otaki draw attention to her chance. Liane as not racing up to early promise, but Patagonia is a recent winner. Most investments may go on ALUNGA, PATAGONIA aud SUNNY BLONDE. GLADSTONE HACK HANDICAP. This hack event is run over one mile and 80 yards. Lady Siegfried will have a track that should suit her better than Otaki'. Dorado may be preferred for this event rather than the earlier one. Rotoma is a little out of the boom now and may be reserved for the last event. Lord Quick is handy when right, while over this distance Warehi may be the best of the remaining lot. Public fancies may be LADY j SIEGFRIED, WAREHI and DORADO. BUNNY MEMORIAL. Darecourt may prefer this event to the Cup, dn which case tho Gainseourt gelding looks like being the favourite. Mister Quex, dressed in his best, is useful but has not proved exaotly consistent. Wasteland, at the minimum, has a chance, as also has Free Rose. Wananga may be saddled up the second time. Favouritism may be disputed by DARECOURT and WANANGA. electric hack. Thds five-furlong event may be a little short for Alunga, while First Chapter, if started, will have a distance to his taste. The Sandwichman has a brace of engagements not seen evefy day in a ten-furlong cup and a fivefurlong hack race. Hunting Spi may upset calculations, while of the others Paul Robeson may do best. Providing they alLgo to the post the best backed may be FIRST CHAPTER, HUNTING SPI and PAUL ROBESON. TARATAHE HACK HANDICAP. Thds is run over a seven-furiong course. Dorado has two earlier engagements while Rotoma may be reserved f 6r this. Revival has some little form to reconnndnd him, while all the other acceptors have earlier engage* ments. Recovery may be looked for from ROTOMA, SUNNY BLONDE and PATAGONIA. 9
