JOLLY COMING-OF-AGE PARTY AND DANCE FOR MISS JESSIE McKENZIE
To celebrate the coming-of-age of Miss Jessie McKenzie, Jellicoe street, Waipukurau, and now on the nursing staff of the Dannevirke Public Hospital, a delightful party and dance was held in the Masonic Hall', Waipukurau, last evening, friends being present from Wellington, Masterton, Hastings and Napier, also a nnmber of nurses from the -Dannevirke Hospital. When the 300 guests arrived at the appointed time, 7 p.m., they sat down to a sumptuous high tea, laid out in the supper-room, Tlie tables looked most attractive, being decorated* with bowls of- choice- chrysantheinums and autumn leaves. Prior to sitting down at the tables grace was pronounced by lsabel Munro, which was followed by a toast to His Majesty King George VI. " During the tea, the toast to the guest-of-honour, was proposed bj Mr A. - McRae, who stated that the McKenzie and McRae clans were c^osely related, and wished Miss Jessie success and happiness in the future. This was responded to by Mr Ken McKenzie. , A toast to Mrs M. A. McKenzie was proposed by Mr W. G. McKenzie, Mr C. Fraser responding. The cutting of the handsome birthday cake, with its 21 candles, by the guest-of-honour, was received with ckeers and the singing of "For She's a Jolly Good Eellow." Following tea, a very jolly dance was held in the* dance hall, popular dance music being supplied by Mrs Meta. Card tables for tbe non-dancers were arranged on the stage, which was decorated with bowls of cbryeantbemum8 and greenery. Many willing lielpers assistcd with the delicious savoury supper served. Mrs McKesuzie received her many guests gowned in black paune velvct, relieved with silver lamo. Miss Jessie McKenzie wore an attractive frock," of emerald green satin, the softly draped eorsage finished on each shoulder with a dianianto clasp. Mrs R. Booth, Carterton, was in black French velvet, fashioned with flared sleeves, and a pink rose ou eorsage. Mrs P. H. Peers wore black crepe de chene, having a softly-draped sasli. Miss Janet McKenzie, ,in a model frock off black satin royal, having a turned-down white satin eollar eaught with a brilliant buckle.
The singing of the National Anthem and "Auld.Lang Syne" brought an exceptionally jolly evening to a close.
