' INVERCARGILL, Last Night. The , quarterly session or the Supreme Court opened in Invercargill to-day, Mr. Justice Kennedy presiding. ' rI am able to tell you that the iisti of charges to be considered by you to-day is a short.. one, " said hiis Honour in his charge to.the Grand Jury. One person appeared at the session for sentenco
and the . charges which would require their consideration' numbered only two. One was the unlawful carnal knowledge I of a girl imder the 'age of 16 years, but if'- the 'facts were well founded it was not- a serious case of its kind. The remaining -chafge, which was of incest, was - of a 'different character.. The charge was against a man who, it would be alleged, had incestuous intercourse with his daughter and a child was born to her. The Grand Jury returned' a true bill in each case. Cyril Jamea Clark , appeared for sentence on two charges of breaking, entering and theft, one charge of breaking and entering with intent and one charge of attempting.. breaking and entering with intent. He was sen-. tenced to'.be detained for reformative purposes for. a period of 18. months, the sentences to be concurrent. William Peter Clarkson, aged 21, pleaded guilty.to a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and was admitted to probation.for one year. William Robison Middlemiss, a labourer, was f ound guilty on a charge of incest and wag remanded in custody for sentence.
