HUNTLY MINE DISPUTE
Minister Fails To Effect Settlement AUCKLAND, Last Night. In an effort to settle the Huntly mine dispute, the Minister of Mines (Hon. P. C. Webb) visited Huntly to-night and met representatives of the union and the managers of the coliieries concerned. The conference lasted - two hours and terminated when . Mr Webb had to ieave hurriedly to catch the Liinited Express for Wellington, which had been specially held up at Huntly Lor him. He had no time in which .to make a statement to the Press. Mr Hutchison, for the union, had uothing to say except that a deadlock had been reached and that there would be no work at the mine to-morrow. He said meetings would be held at each of the mining settlements and the deliberations of the conference would be discussed with the men.
