Denial Of Mr. Semple's Statements
(By Teleeraph-
WELLINGTON, This Day. Referring to a statement reported as ^aying heen made by the Hon. R. Semple at Auckland that frequently cases arose in which a man who applied for a licence in Wellington and failed to pass the test went straight out to Petone or Hutt and obtained a .licence without difficulty, Mr Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, gives a poini-blank denial. So far as Lower Hutt is concerned, he states, no new licences are issued jvithout a test of the applicant and this test is just as rigorous as that which applicants in the city have to go through, 'Tn any case, the borough observes to the letter," says Mr Andrews, "the regulations which provide for a licence being taken out where the car is garaged, or where the applicant resides, if he is a non-owner."
