Walter Nash, in the course of a long interview granted fo the Financial News, denied that the Government contemplated natioxxalising fhe . tradipg banks in New Zealand. Adnxittedly they had been deprived of " two-fifth» of their business thirough the marketing schemes but there were no signs that this had caused them unnecessary distress. The Government had no plans for extending their marketing schemes and there was no prospect of inflation as over half the expenditure on public works had been met from taxation and the remainde* from savings. The Budget would show a nxuch larger surplus than anticipated. Both the income tax and the customs had yielded more tlxan the estimates. There wag no liklihood of internal borrowing at presenf.
