Wanganui Game To-morrow
To-morrow, Thursday, the Hastings hockey team will be agaln called to defend the Nordon Cup, the challengers being Wanganui. The Nordon Cup signifies to all hockey enthusiasts the premlership of minor associations throughout New Zealand and has been keeniy contested since 1911. Winning the cup in 1933, Hastings has eince withstood 13 challenges, which constitutes a record throughout New Zealand and it remains to be seen this eeaaon how the local representatives farc. This is Wanganui Je third challenge to Hastings, and if their team is up to the standard of prevlous years Hastings will have to be at their best. With local hockey at a higher standard than ever, and the fact that the New Zealand selector will witness the game in view of the forthcoming New Zealand tour of Australia, an excellent exhibition of hockey should be witnsssed. The game wiill begin at 3 p.m. and the curtain raiser at 1.30 p.m. Hastings will be represented by the following: — Goal: W. Parkhill. Backs: A. Mahoney, T. Blumont; Halves: D. Lynch, R. Tutaki, Harakl. Forwards: M. Donald, Fulton, O 'Neill, Tau Hemapo, McNab. Reserves: Forwards, C. Kirkman, E. Shuker; backs, R. Treacher, A. Taylor. JUNIOR COMPETITION. The junior competition this week will be confined to one game. — Pdrates v. Karori, at 1.30 p.m. This game will be the curtain-raiser to the Nordon Cup match. The mateh between Blue and School has been postponed. Points in the Pirates v. Karori match will count for the championship.
