Broadcastipg Policy: An Adequate Service THE MINISTER'S PROMISE ."It the B stations wish to remain on the air, we will not close them j down. " , .. The Minister of Broadcastxng, tne | Hon. F. Jones, made this statement to , deputations of baclc eountry settler^ j in the Tiniroto and Hangaroa distxictF j on Monday in reply to representations j urging the retention of the Wairoa, station. TCe explained the Government policy, which was to own and control all B stations, but if the proprietors did not desire to sell they could remain on the air. The Government was forcing nobody to sell, but had made valuations of the stations, and offers had been made to them. The B station owners had said that they were not . against selling their stations, but were not satisfied with the prices offered. They were willing to negotiate, and the Government had extended the time for the acceptance or rejection of the offers in order to allow those discussions to take place. The B station owners had asked, continued the Minister, what would happen if no agreement was reached, and the Government had replied that the B stations might carry on. The Government would then go into the question of which stations would be given financial assistance.
