(From Our Own Correspondcnts) Effects of Gale. The rain and wind experienced ov'ev tlio week-end played havoc with the ' Coronation deeorations, which were wearing a very drab appearance yester\ day. A start was made with thoir removal during the day, and in a few days the Coronation celebrations will .be only a pleasant memory. Memorial Fund. Contributions to the King Georgo V. Memorial Fund, for establishing' pcrmanent health oamps for children, received by the Town Clerk, Waipatva, amount to £5 13/6. Waipukurau Water. Over a million more gallons of water were pumped by the Waipukurau Borough Council 's plant during April of this year than during the corresponding month of 1936; Last month the centrifugal pump ran for 275.65 hours, pump* ing 5,441,285 gallons of water, compared with 4,325,250 gallons iu April, ^WAAAA/sAAAXXAA/O\AA/^AAAAAXAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKXAAAA,
1936. The borough's outside staff has repacked and repaired valves and connections in various parts of the tOwu, and three newu water conncctions have been made. This information was delivered to councillors at the monthly meeting last night by the town Clerk and engineer, Mr H. B. Smart. Revenue froui Licences. Revenue collectod by the Waipukurau Borougk Council during the past month from the issue of miscellaneous licences totalled £71 8/11, of which amount £22 was for kerbside pump licences and £19 for dangerous goods licences. Details of the amounts. collected for the various licences are as ioliow: — Dangerous goods (7) £19; heavy traffic (2), £9 16/11; hall (4), £4; billiard room (1), £2 2/-; taxi (3), £6; kerbside pump (11), £22; food (7), £6;. motor drivers' (10), £2 10/-. Total, £71 8/11. Coronation Ceremony. "I think that for the money spent we bad a very creditable celebration ceremony," said the Mayor, Mr I. W. N. 1,rackie, at last night 's meeting oi the 'Waipukurau Borougli Council, when e.vpvossing his appreciation for the cooperation of the public on May 12. He thanked the town clerk and engineer, Mr H. B. Smart, for the good work ho had done, and Mr Smart in return praised Cr. G. J. Bromell for his lielp in the work. Booklet For Drivers. For the first time in the history of Ihe country, motorists who renew their drivers' licences before June 1 will be issued free with a small booklet containing the new traffic regulations of 1936 and the laws to be obeyed. Illustrations indicate the various signals aud signs, and special attention is given to the proper method of driving along strects where there is much pedestrian traffie. The Waipukurau Borough Couai cil has received its share of the booklets, and within a month over 500 motor drivers will rcceive their copios Last yoar 578 drivers' licences vtere issued by the council. *
