Well-Known Ex-Policeman Passes

AUCKLAND, Last Night. Collapsiug at the wheel of his motor' car in Putaruru this afternoon Mr. J F, Murphy, formerly a well-knowxi police constable, dicd alnxost ^mmedi ately, Mr. Murphy was 64 ye'ars oi age and retired from the Poliee Force only lasfc November. The car in which he avss driving was travelling at only a moderate speed and it crashed into the back of a stationary car owned bj Ihe present constable in charge of Putaruru, Constable T. Cptter, whose small child was' fhrown from tbe seat, but. not injured. Mr. Murphy was for 29 years in charge of the Putaruru Police District. Born at Dunedin he was educated at the Christiau Brothers' Shcool and for a' number of years was an attendant at the Seacliff Mental Hospital before joining the Police Force in 1902'.
