WITH THE HOUNDS

Meet at the Tikokino Crossroads THE BEST THIS SEAS0N (Contributed.) Hounds met at the Tikokino crossroads to hunt the property of Mr. Moorehead and Mr. Tom Butler. The largest field this season moved off along the road towards Mr. Moorehead 's house, and working through a swampy paddock quickly f ound a hare. This. ran in a circle and came back to the rushes, where hounds checked, bnt got their line again through some young grass. They followed oehind the homestead and over the creek to the rojid, where there - was another check and finally they lost. 'ihe Master brought the hounds back to the creek, -where, on the flats above the bank, a fresh hare gofc up. This running left-handed gave a good fast line over flat country, when suddenly doubling back it returned to the rushes by the water where hounds killed. During the spell following this kill hounds found again the long grass, ran fast towards the pine planlation and turned again to the road, giving sonie tricky • jumping, especially tho road double — a f'ull wire fence and a deep drain on the road side. This hare mad© for the river on Mr. Butler 's property, and here the field had to check and find their own way round two fields of young grass, only to d'iscover that hounds liad turned and run back over the road to the paddocks to the left of Mr. Moorehead 's house where, after a long check, hounds failed to pick up the scent again, and were brought in. It was quite the best day's hunting tl&ere has been thfis season, though the big fences took their toll of several followers, fortunately none was very serious. The rain overnight had softened the ground, and scent was good. Tho thanks of the hunt go to those good supporters of hunting who gave their properties, Messrs Moorehead, Butler and BiddelL >
