"This • explains - the strengthening of our air bases in Sicily, Sardinia, the Aegian Sea, Pantfillaria and Tobruk, allowing our air divisions to pass over the Mediterranean in a few houite," continued the General, who declared that Italian aerial equipment contsisted of "modern to most modern" fighters, capablo of climbing to 24,000 feet in eight minutes, with a speed of nearly 300 miles an hour. The pilots exceeded ten thousand, and more than 20,000 workers were building new bases.
