VANDALISM AT TAUPO

Native Trees Damaged A report from Taupo that campers on the shores of the lake had caused damage to the beautiful trees at Jellicoe Point was the subjeet oi comment by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), who described the action as vandalism of the worst kind. "It is written in reports I have that quite apart from the little damage done to the trees by stray stock, campers have been "splitting branches ofl the kowhai and tipping eamp xefuse into the forks of tree trunks and roots," said the Minister. "One of the prettiest sights I have ever seen on a New Zealand lake shore was that area of the kowhai at Jellieoe Point in full golden bloom. It was a wonderful picture. To think that there is every ehance of those trees of beauty being shortly destroyed through thoughtlessness and carelessness is to pain nne considerably."
